Like it’s predecessors, Widows 7 has a number of keyboard shortcuts built in to increase productivity. Keyboard shortcuts are combinations of two or more keys that, when pressed, can be used to perform a task that would typically require a mouse or other pointing device. Keyboard shortcuts can make it easier to interact with your computer, saving you time and effort as you work with Windows and other programs.
There are a number of keyboard combinations that are widely known and used, such as:
F1 | Display Help |
Ctrl + C | Copy |
Ctrl + X | Cut |
Ctrl + V | Paste |
There are a large number of other keyboard shortcuts less commonly known, that are available in Windows, and many of the programs that run in windows.
In this short article we’ll look at the general the use of the Function keys found at the top of the keyboard.
F1 | As already identified this is used to provide the Help function for the system |
F2 | This option allows renaming of a selected item, for example open Windows explorer (the file management tool), use the mouse to click on a filename, the file will be highlighted, now press the F2 key and the filename can be edited. |
F3 | Search for a file or a folder. This key is active in Windows Explorer or the desktop. From the desktop press F3, a search window opens, enter the search tem in the search ox at the top right of the window. From Windows explorer the search box is highlighted at the top right, enter the search term. |
F6 | This cycles through the screen elements in a window or on the desktop. |
F10 | Activates the menu bar in the active program, or shows the shortcut key presses to individual commands. |
